
Dave Pearce might be more familier to you as the one half of Pascal & Pearce. Pascal & Pearce are fast becoming one of South Africa’s top house exports, with UK tours and and two albums on offer. Dave graduated from the Cape Audio College diploma course 3 years ago and since then has been busy at work with his partner in crime Pascal Ellinas creating some serious tunes for the masses. For those of you who dont follow whats happening on Ted Talks, LRAD or “Long range acoustic device”, is a portable long range acoustic amplification system currently being used by the military and coast guard as an acoustic deterrent in their battle against riot, pirate and crowd control. We’ve done a nice big upgrade here at the Cape Audio College. Offering our students even more to help them prepare for their careers in audio. Increasing our 34 Pro Tools workstations to a whopping 44. With 9 full production studios and 35 Pro Tools editing and mixing stations you can be sure of a huge amount of practical time with the tools of the trade. I recently had the extreme pleasure to work with the new Abbey Road mastering pack, TG12413 Limiter and the EMI RS127/RS135 Brilliance pack. And, man! I am amazed! These plugins are the bomb. The TG12412 mastering EQ is possibly one of the nicest plugin EQ’s Ive ever used, its smooth and responsive and has become my goto EQ for curves and final tonal adjustment. It just sounds so damn cool. Not to mention the amazing Brilliance pack which consists of 3 separate single band EQ plugs just for tweaking the highs. For me, its the only single control styled plugin I’ve ever used that could effectively give me the high frequencies I want on a master without adding harshness. A few months ago Keith Farquharson, Freshly Ground‘s live and studio engineer, invited four of our students to job shadow in his studio. One of those students, Justin Ash, currently doing 2nd year at Cape Audio College, was chosen by Keith to help him out on a semi regular basis.
