This last Saturday we were lucky enough to secure a Q&A workshop with international Electro Dubstep superstar Zomboy, otherwise known as Joshua Mellody. Josh pulled into Cape Audio College at 4pm on Saturday to give local Cape Town producers and DJ’s a chance to probe and question the very techniques he uses to create his monster sound. “This UK chap has been coined a prodigy and a successor to the almighty: Skrillex. Once your ears have soaked in a few minutes of Zomboy you’ll soon realize why Joshua has released through Never Say Die Records (ie same label as SKisM & Foreign Beggars). His productions feel as if Skrillex & Mord Fustang had a child, and this child – Zomboy – quickly mutated into a next generation progressive-grungy-glitchy-dubstep-zombie.” Read more »

The 48 Hour film project is a competition between different teams of filmmakers and creatives that get together and try to produce a 4 – 7 minute short film in exactly 48 hours from start to finish with a few curve balls namely a random film genre. This initiative was created by Mark Ruppert back in 2001 and now spans over 100 countries, the concept is to see what can be made in one weekend and forces the participants to “Do” rather than “talk”. The following article was written by Cape Audio College second year student Warren Fisher and is an excerpt from his and Michael Clarks experiences as independent live sound engineers on one of his very first events. Live sound is a hugely buoyant part of the sound industry with many employment opportunities. It all started while the college was on a week long break, when Michael Clarke and I were contacted again by the event organizers of the collaborative YOH! Parties. The theme for this one was “Early Halloween”. Having organised a smaller live rig for one of their events a few weeks prier, we knew this Read more »
