For the past 6 weeks the Cape Audio College second year students have been working really hard on their latest sound to video project. For the first time in their course the students were required to compile an A/V Projects using only their own foley work and field recording, no library sound effects were allowed… so using the new Cape Audio College Tascam field recorder, they hit the Cape Town city and surrounds in their production groups gathering sounds in all sorts of places, building up libraries of their very own.

Thabo on steel drums
We had a whole collection of interesting musical instruments at Cape Audio College this weekend thanks to the Pan African Project, a big group of session musicians who wanted some tracks recorded. One of our past students, the groups bassist, knowing this one of the only studios in Cape Towns it is even possible to track a group of musicians that big. We spent the weekend recording steel drums, a marimba, an african thumb piano, a trumpet, a double bass, a drum kit, an acoustic guitar and a beautiful electric, a great sounding bass guitar, and even an Imbongi(a praise poet). The Plastics are busy recording 3 singles with Red Bull Studios for a film on the Cape Town music scene, under the working title ‘a Monkeys Wedding’. Steve Elsworth (Audiophile 021), ex Cape Audio College in more than one way, having been one of the top students in his year, he was successively employed here and worked his way up to becoming the Head Electronic Music Programing Instructor. Ryan feeling it
The last time The Little Kings came to Cape Audio College the recording went so well that the track they did with one of the producer course students recently received some air play on 5fm. So this time round we took aside a weekend to work on a project with the Cape Audio College staff, the Head Engineer, Gaston Roulstone, brought in his good friend and amazing producer Jaime Sandoval, to lend us his golden ear for music and expertise on composition in general.
