Auria the new DAW ?
This Product got released yesterday and as far as i can tell there are no reviews yet but this seems to be the 1st real fully functional DAW that runs on a tablet. This is not a DAW controller or some cheap imitation according to Wave machine labs this is the real deal with everything from dedicated mix and edit windows, Pan and volume automation, punch in recording, groups, aux sends and plugin features as well as what they are calling a 64-bit double precision architecture it seems like they are throwing everything at this software and all for the iPAD. The Auria runs on a iPad 2, im hoping the 3 aswell, and so far is only compatible with some of the more affordable USB audio interfaces available on the market namely:
- PreSonus AudioBox 1818VSL – Up to 18 inputs
- RME Fireface UCX – Up to 8 inputs
- Focusrite Scarlett 18i6 – Up to 18 inputs
- Focusrite Scarlett 8i6 – Up to 6 inputs
- Tascam US-800 – Up to 8 inputs
- Phonic Firefly 808 Universal – Up to 8 inputs (analog inputs only)
- Alesis I/O Dock (charges the iPAD)
The proposed features seem too good to be true and in a way they are in my opinion because no one has addressed the issue of charging the iPAD during the session. It has to be connected to a USB audio interface to receive audio signal but seeing as the iPAD 1, 2 and 3 all only have 1 connection point for power and multiple I/O nevermind the fact that some of the compatible USB interfaces, of which there are few, are bus powered leaves me a little bit baffled as to how this could be overlooked … Nevertheless it does pack some astonishing features if u compare the resources you would need to run other DAW’s on a PC or MAC and the resources of iPAD’s the gap is staggering and this is what they offer right off the bat.
