Kings of the Studio

Ryan feeling it

The last time The Little Kings came to Cape Audio College the recording went so well that the track they did with one of the producer course students recently received some air play on 5fm. So this time round we took aside a weekend to work on a project with the Cape Audio College staff, the Head Engineer, Gaston Roulstone, brought in his good friend and amazing producer Jaime Sandoval, to lend us his golden ear for music and expertise on composition in general.

Ready for rich harmony

On Saturday we began tracking the single ‘Run Away’, a really relaxed but steady track. Beginning to work with a producer always seems to be the most difficult process a band faces, but ‘The Little Kings’ sunk in to it like true professionals. Jaime threw in some nice ideas and made some slight structural changes really developing the track into something you seriously can’t stop tapping your foot to.

Production in the Live Room

Luckily everyone was feeling a lot fresher on the Sunday, probably a good idea not having a gig the night before a recording session. There were no major structure changes for the new track of the day, ‘Survivor’, which is a mixture of a big driving rock and the groovy sound of reggae. In my opinion this track really has a big radio potential. Were going to spend some time this week re-recording some vocals for a few sections in this track, to finish it up and get it ready for mixing. We had two of the second year students help us for the session, a win win for everybody, more hands and valuable studio experience gained, thanks for helping the weekend run smoothly.
