January intake AV project

The Cape Audio January intake have been given their first AV assignment. They have to choose one of two 3 minute long video clips provided, either an action scene from the feature film ‘Hellboy 2′ or an equally exiting clip based on the ‘Halo’ computer game series.

For this particular assignment the students have access to professional sound sample libraries consisting of thousands of banks of sound effects designed to be used in audio post production work.

The sample library is not the only way of piecing together sound to picture as we interest the students to get into sound design, and urge them to do as much foley work as they possibly can. ‘Foley’ is a term describing the process of recording sounds, and through signal processing and simple sound layering, creating entirely new sounds to suit. Just as students, Phillip Oertel and Ian Toft, have been doing all over the campus building as pictured.

In total the students have 6 weeks to complete their projects using the industry standard Digital Audio Workstation, Pro Tools 9. It’s good to see them hard at work from the get go, as we all know quality work can take its time.

Gathering some interesting samples.
