Sound on Sound, Prism Audio and Sadie due to return to South Africa

Last year the Cape Audio College had the privilege of being  visited by Sound on Sound Magazine’s technical editor Hugh Robjohns and BBC programme creator Peter Nash while they where conducting their world wide Mic to Monitor tour. The purpose of last years SA visit was to promote the incredible Prism Orpheus interface and the new Native version of the hugely respected audio software and hardware from UK based high end audio masters SADiE. Students had the opportunity to chat to Hugh and Peter and came away from the demonstration with some valuable insight from these high profile engineers.

This year Hugh and Peter are returning with the Great Prism Sound SADiE/CBA Africa Tour. The pan-African tour will comprise three Read more »

Look what the RED tide brought in

Things are moving up in our main tracking room. Our most recent addition to our already almighty arsenal of audio weapons is none other than the mythical Focusrite RED series processors, in the form of the RED3 stereo compressor and the awesome RED2 equalizer. These puppies sound amazing! I have to pinch myself to make sure I’m not dreaming. And after the initial test runs mops where brought out to saturate the drool that was left on the floor.  The Focusrite RED series are up there with some of the best tools on the market. Cape audio college students are extremely lucky to be gaining valuable experience with processors of this heritage. The RED’s are here and they are here to stay. Carry on reading, we have some videos and links to wet your taste buds. Read more »

Audio Forum Roundup.

Little seems to be known locally regarding the wealth of information available to sound engineers. Forums have played a huge role in the development of the internet since the days of bulletin boards and 14k modems. Forums are like an online meeting place where the tech savvy sound engineer can discuss, compare and network with like minded individuals from all corners of the globe. It amazes me how few local sound engineers are familiar with the likes of gearslutz, audioforums.com and other audio related communities. So I decided to do a round up of just a couple of the more worth while audio forums from around the interweb. Simply click on the links below to have a look. And if you want to get involved dont forget to register and READ THE RULEZ!!! Read more »

Mic to Monitor South Africa Tour 2010

Hugh Robjohns and Cape Audio College students, past and present

The last two nights, 4th and 5th of October, the Cape Town sound engineering community had the opportunity to attend the Mic to Monitor Tour 2010, a very informative seminar brought to us by SEGMA. It was really great to see so many of our past and current students attending such a workshop. This gave them the opportunity to meet each other, as well as other working professionals in the local sound industry, from film to music to radio. Students were even able to use the breaks to chat and rub shoulders with high profile international engineers Graham Boswell, Peter Nash and Hugh Robjohns, who were the speakers at the event.
