Cape Audio College Open Day

Its time for another Cape Audio College Open Day! 10th September 2011! To find out more about the exciting possibilities within the the sound industry come on down and pay us a visit at Unit 8b, The Waverley Business Park, Mowbray, Cape Town. We are opening our doors at 10am, and closing at 2pm. There will be guided tours of the facility, as well as an industry talk presented by Terrence Adendorff of Kfm/Primedia. Excursion to Bellville Studios

Last week Friday, the Cape Audio College course director, Gaston Roulstone, was asked to head through to Bellville Studios to help Theo Crous with some technical issues he was having in his studio, so Gaston organized two Cape Audio College students to join him, giving them the opportunity to chat with South Africa’s biggest selling rock producer. Both Noel Kriegler, a first year student, and Daniel Brieter, one of our second year students, were very happy to be chosen to join Gaston on his Visit. Read more »

The next official Cape Audio College open day is coming soon. Yes, on Saturday the 10th of September Cape Audio College will be opening its doors to one and all. So if you’re interested in finding out more about Cape Audio College, the programs offered, or just the exciting possibilities within the the audio industry in general, you better come and check it out. ex Graduate Jim Petrak grabs himself an AMAA

Jim Petrak is an ADR recording engineer and 5.1 surround sound mixer specializing in Dolby digital for film, and a recent AMAA(african oscar) winner. Jim kicked off his career in audio post production after graduating with a Cape Audio College Diploma in Sound Engineering. Jim started his first full time job in audio at Chris Fellows Sound Studio’s in Johannesburg, where he progressed from foley recording to ADR recording and sound design. This progression allowed him to gain intimate knowledge of the audio design process, ultimately leading him on to becoming the head re-recording mixer at Kwazi Mojo in 2006. Read more »

January intake AV project

The Cape Audio January intake have been given their first AV assignment. They have to choose one of two 3 minute long video clips provided, either an action scene from the feature film ‘Hellboy 2′ or an equally exiting clip based on the ‘Halo’ computer game series.

For this particular assignment the students have access to professional sound sample libraries consisting of thousands of banks of sound effects designed to be used in audio post production work.

Pan African Project

Thabo on steel drums

We had a whole collection of interesting musical instruments at Cape Audio College this weekend thanks to the Pan African Project, a big group of session musicians who wanted some tracks recorded. One of our past students, the groups bassist, knowing this one of the only studios in Cape Towns it is even possible to track a group of musicians that big. We spent the weekend recording steel drums, a marimba, an african thumb piano, a trumpet, a double bass, a drum kit, an acoustic guitar and a beautiful electric, a great sounding bass guitar, and even an Imbongi(a praise poet).
