ex Graduate Jim Petrak grabs himself an AMAA

Jim Petrak is an ADR recording engineer and 5.1 surround sound mixer specializing in Dolby digital for film, and a recent AMAA(african oscar) winner. Jim kicked off his career in audio post production after graduating with a Cape Audio College Diploma in Sound Engineering. Jim started his first full time job in audio at Chris Fellows Sound Studio’s in Johannesburg, where he progressed from foley recording to ADR recording and sound design. This progression allowed him to gain intimate knowledge of the audio design process, ultimately leading him on to becoming the head re-recording mixer at Kwazi Mojo in 2006. Read more »

an Ex Graduate and his studio

Andrew Rawbone-Viljoen, an ex-graduate from our Cape Audio College Diploma in Sound Engineering, finished his time with us seven years ago, in 2004. We catch up with him now, doing well, and busy recording some great SA bands; currently working with Watershed and Macstanley(formally known as Flat Stanly). After a lot of hard work and continuous practice, Andrew now co-owns Digital Forest Studio with his brother, Jeremy, who takes care of the marketing aspect at the studio. Cape Audio College recently headed out to Klein Constantia, to ‘Huis in Bos’ farm, where Digital Forest Studio lies nestled amongst vineyards and mountains. Read more »

Isochronous at Cape Audio College

Isochronality

This last Saturday, the 19th of March, Cape Audio College was graced with the soft, rhythmic melodies of Isochronous and their “icy” re-take on the track ‘The Silence’. Organized by one of our students for his band recording, we let the students come in on the weekend, seeing it was one of South Africas best up and comming bands, who also happen to be bassed in Pretoria. We were all quite surprised when a producer the band had been chatting to pitched up out of no where to help re-produce the single, even more surprising was that it was Jaime Sandoval, the Berkley Music School graduate from Chile!
